Off to the zoo

For our inaugural post, we visited the Bowmanville Zoo. E had been to this zoo last year, and the Toronto Zoo too, so he was not a zoobie (zoo newbie). :) A hadn't been to any zoo before, but is still too young to really register any of it.

There were some cool things to see, such as the macaws, ring-tailed lemurs, and an elephant. There were some big cats too, which were fun! The bengal and siberian tigers, the cheetah and a jaguar. We were there for feeding time, so we watched the cats attack their "prey", a few raw beef steaks. Good fun!

They had a mini water park too, no slides, but lots of water spraying around for the kids to run through. E had fun with that while we watched.

We checked out the camel ride (a dromedary) since E said he wanted to try it, but when he realized how big the camel was he suddenly became shy. Surprise, surprise. :)

E also had fun feeding corn kernels to the goats, chickens and some reindeer. He let them eat from his hand twice, before he built up some fear and just started throwing the kernels at the animals. Hehe.

Then E was cute and demanded the camera from us. He turned it on by himself, and took some pictures of the macaws. I was certainly impressed that he could turn it on, but more so that he didn't drop it the whole time. :)

On the way out, we found a man holding a ball python (so named because it curls itself into a ball). Ethan and I both pet the snake a little. It had a very interesting texture, scaly to be sure, but smooth and muscular too. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but that wasn't quite it.

Altogether a fun outing!
